Soundport Project works one country at a time: one country, one album, one track for each city. The running order is a route, walking from one city to the next.

Every track begins in research. Which instruments a city plays, which modes and rhythms it holds on to, which lineage it belongs to: all of that is settled first, and it decides what the piece should be before a note is composed with AI tools. Which cities are chosen, how they are ordered and which take is kept are decisions made by a person.

The photographs are chosen one at a time from Unsplash, Pexels and Wikimedia Commons, each cleared for commercial use and credited to the photographer who made it, with the full list on the photo credits page.

This site is not a place to listen. The albums live on YouTube, where every city is a chapter you can jump to, and selected albums are distributed to streaming services. What is kept here is the sketch and the photograph for each city, the credit behind every image, and the city films as they are finished.
